Saw Nine Inch Nails and Queens of the Stone Age last night.

Such an amazing gig. I went primarily for NIN, but Queens were pretty awesome of their own accord. However, much like when I saw Einstein on the Beach last year, I became obsessed with little details rather than being enveloped in the whole show.

That disappeared when Trent Reznor arrived on stage. The man oozed both confidence and humility. He was so in touch with not just the crowd directly in front of him, but with the entire arena, his band and himself. One man took thousands with him for the ride. As a performer, this was a stunning display.

It was a lesson in degrees. The difference between the two front-men was so small, but an inch was a mile in performance. The difference in experience was similar, but the effect amplified.

I won’t go into it too much yet, but an inch – or nine – can have a huge impact.
